THE ANCIENT SYRIAC OT SAYS IT WAS AN ANGEL THAT WRESTLED WITH JACOB!
SYRIAC
OT VERSION (circa. 2nd Century): “...And Jacob was left alone; and
there a man wrestled with him until daybreak. [25.] And when the man
saw that he did not prevail against him, he touched the hollow of his
thigh; and the hollow of Jacobs thigh was out of joint, as he
wrestled with him. [26.] And the man said to him 'Let me go, for the
day is breaking.' And he said, 'I will not let you go unless you
bless me.' [27.] And he said to him, 'What is your name?' And he
said, 'Jacob.' [28.] And he said to him. 'Your name shall no morebe
called Jacob, but Israel (the Prince of God); for you have prove your
strength wrestling with AN ANGEL and with man, and have prevailed.'
[29.] And Jacob asked him, and said, 'Tell me your name.' And he
said, 'Why is it that you ask my name?' AND THE ANGEL BLESSED HIM THERE. [30.] AND JACOB CALLED THE NAME OF THAT PLACE PENIEL; FOR HE
SAID, 'I HAVE SEEN AN ANGEL FACE TO FACE, and my life is preserved.'
[31.] The sun rose upon him just as he left Peniel, and he limped
because of his thigh. [32.] That is why the children of Israel do not
eat the sinew of the hip, which is on the hollow of the thigh, to
this day; because THE ANGEL touched the hollow of Jacob's thigh on
the sinew of the thigh...” - (Genesis 32:25-32; “Holy Bible:
